How Yoga and Meditation Have Helped Me Learn How To Snowboard

If you’ve ever tried to learn how to snowboard, or learn any new sport, I’m sure you can relate to how frustrating, painful and embarrassing the learning process can be, especially at first. I’m constantly impressed by how lessons from my yoga and meditation practice permeate into the rest of my life.

How yoga/meditation have helped me in snowboarding:

  • 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐠𝐨: I remember when I was first learning how to snowboard, I use to hate falling in front of other people. Not only was it painful, it was also embarrassing. But, if you’re not falling (or failing) you’re not trying. Get over yourself and just give it a try.
  • 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭: being able to keep my mind in the present moment has significantly increased my body awareness and has allowed me to make corrections when I feel myself shifting weight incorrectly.
  • 𝐑𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫: as with inversions or arm balances, sometimes the only barrier is fear. Face your fears and learn how to overcome them.
  • 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: if it applies to things like building a business, losing weight or overcoming depression, it also applies to sports. Use your mind to send positive, encouraging messages to your body to accomplish what you want it to do. Manifest that shit.
